Via Verde, in the South Bronx, will have 201 apartment units and will be a green building with solar panels, rainwater systems, and residential vegetable gardens. The project is part of Mayor Bloomberg's goal of achieving 165,000 affordable housing units by 2014. Via Verde marks the 100,000th unit towards this achievement.

Winners Are Announced for Grand Concourse Design Competition

The Bronx Museum of the Arts and the Design Trust for Public Space announced the winners for the international ideas competition for the Grand Concourse. In the winning design, Purifying Urban Modular Parasite (called pUMp) air-filtration devices will be placed near the Grand Concourse roadway to help mitigate child asthma concerns.

The Department of City Planning will begin public review of a plan to rezone a dormant industrial district on the Lower Grand Concourse in the South Bronx. The proposed zoning would allow residential development in the area for the first time while preserving some existing manufacturing uses. The rezoning includes a 30-block area between East 149th Street the Harlem River and Morris Avenue.
