The NY Daily News describes a proposed South Bronx Rezoning as at attempt to bring the glitz of Manhattan’s SoHo to the gritty South Bronx. City officials hope that rezoning the Lower Grand Concourse area of the South Bronx will revitalize the area, which is currently largely used industrial or manufacturing purposes yet suffers from chronic vacancy issues. Bronx Borough President, Adolfo Carrión, is worried about the effect of rezoning on businesses east of Grand Concourse from East 144th Street to E 139th Street. However, his office states they are confident that these concerns will be worked out during the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP).
