NYU is exploring expansion options with the Brooklyn Academy of Music and within Downtown Brooklyn, a neighborhood which has drawn an increasingly young, college-age population following its major rezoning in 2004. Although NYU has no definite plans for future development in Downtown Brooklyn, the university - which recently released its long-term expansion plans - told the Brooklyn Paper it was considering a combination of academic and administrative buildings and student housing in the downtown area.
