Community board members in Long Island City postponed a vote this week on a rezoning proposal that would allow the construction of a 19-story dormitory in the neighborhood. The site, currently zoned for manufacturing, would need to be rezoned to allow dormitory use. The developer, Edward J. Minskoff Equities, told community board members that he had letters of intent from colleges in 2007 but needs zoning approval to be able to restart talks with them. Community board members expressed concern that he would not be able to attract enough students and would instead resort to offering single-room occupancy units to the general public. The project will be up for a vote by the community board in May.
