The old Yankee Stadium demolition is underway, a process park advocates say has taken far too long. Residents were promised replacement ball fields as part of the approval process for the new Yankee Stadium, which was constructed on former parkland. Once the old stadium is removed, the replacement ball fields can be built. City officials reject claims that the demolition has moved too slowly, saying the project is complicated given its location adjacent to the new stadium and a major transportation structure.
