PlanNYC, a student-run website based at NYU’s Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy, has proudly served New Yorkers for five years. During that time, the growth of online information on land use and development issues, along with advances in technology such as RSS feeds and news alerts, have created many opportunities for New Yorkers to stay informed about housing and land use debates in the City. As a result, the daily news updating on this site has become less unique and less critical to our users.

Groups Meet to Discuss Future of Chinatown

Last week, members of the Coalition to Protect Chinatown and the Lower East Side (CPCLES) and the Chinatown Working Group (CWG) attended a town hall meeting to discuss the future of Chinatown. Both CPCLES and the CWG formed after the November 2008 area rezoning. The groups felt outside developers had undue influence over the rezoning terms and wanted a larger voice for the community. Both groups claim a single goal of neighborhood preservation, but demographic differences have led to distrust between the two. The CWG is preparing to submit a comprehensive neighborhood development plan to the city later this year.
