Landmarks Decision Will Impact Real Estate Development on 57th and Broadway

The Landmarks Preservation Commission is set to vote on two connected buildings on constructed by the B.F. Goodrich Company in 1909. Extell Development opposes the landmark designation of the buildings, located on 57th and Broadway, because then they will be unable to construct a mixed-use tower at the site. Extell is seeking a compromise where only one building will be landmarked so that the other can be demolished and used to develop the new tower. Preservationists argue that if one building is landmarked, then the other deserves to be landmarked as well.
