The Javits Convention Center renovation project, which was originally proposed under former Governor Pataki, was recently approved by the Public Authorities Control Board. The project, which was stalled due to high cost estimates, was reduced to a cost of approximately $463 million and plans include renovations to the center’s damaged roof while expanding exhibition space and other convention facilities by 100,000 square feet. Though the project has been scaled down from its original proposal, representative from the Hotel Association of New York City are pleased that the project will begin construction immediately.
