Developer Wants To Buy More Coney Island Property
BROOKLYN COMMUNITY DISTRICT 13
Developer Joe Sitt is planning to buy three acres of Coney Island property that Mayor Bloomberg wants the city to buy. Kansas Fried Chicken owner Horace Bullard said that Sitt has offered $91 million for the former site of the Thunderbolt rollercoaster, while the city’s offers were too low to seriously consider. Sitt has been in negotiations to sell the city his 10.5 acres of Coney Island beachfront property, but talks have stalled because Sitt wants to sell the land for between $200 million and $250 million and the city would like to pay less than $200 million. Sitt spokesman Stefan Friedman said that the developer is buying the extra land for an entertainment-amusement complex to be set up on the boardwalk as a back-up plan should the deal with the city fail to move forward. Some believe that the extra land would increase Sitt’s leverage in the negotiations.
