Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation president Regina Myer stated that construction of six acres of the 9.5 acre Pier 1 will be finished by the end of 2009, and the remaining 3.5 acres will be complete soon after. Myer also said that two-thirds of the 85-acre Brooklyn Bridge Park will be finished in five years. Pier 5 and the “upland” areas next to all six piers on the site are included in the plans, while Pier 4 is to remain untouched, and there is no money in the budget for Piers 2 and 3 and part of Pier 6. The site between Pier 1 and Pier 6 on the Brooklyn waterfront is currently mostly deserted. Myer also said that nearby residential building One Brooklyn Park’s trouble selling units will not affect the park’s construction.
