Brooklyn Bridge Park to be Completed by the City

New York City and New York State have agreed to allow the city to complete the construction of Brooklyn Bridge Park. The two entities have been at odds regarding control of the park for several months. For the next fiscal year, the city is committing $55 million to the project and the state will continue to be involved in shaping the park. No opening date has been set for the park.

WTC Impasse Between Developer and the Port Authority Continues

After appearing together at a rally on Tuesday, urging them to move forward with construction, Developer Larry Silverstein and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey continue to disagree. Silverstein expresses his desire to begin building his two towers. The Port Authority claims that Silverstein has not secured financing or prospective tenants for the buildings.

Approval For Rose Plaza

The Department of City Planning agreed to the necessary zoning changes for Rose Plaza in a 7-5 vote. Of the 801 units slated for the project, 160 are designated affordable. The project will also include retail, public and community spaces. Community Board 1 and Council member Steve Levin oppose the project on the basis of the low number of affordable units.

Planning For the Kingsbridge Armory

Ruben Diaz, Bronx Borough President (D), is committed to developing a plan for the Kingsbridge Armory that the community will support. However, because of his role in defeating the city's plan for the site a few months ago, the city is not as optimistic about working with Diaz.

Ground Zero Constuction Battle Continues

On Tuesday March 9th, unionized construction workers and elected officials will rally at the World Trade Center to push Larry Silverstein and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey closer to an agreement. A few thousand construction workers-- who are facing unemployment as a result of the stalled negotiations-- are expected at the rally.
