The city issued an RFP for the Wallabout neighborhood in Brooklyn on the site of the former naval prison. The city demolished the building in 2005 and hopes to redevelop the full-block site into a mixed use space for commercial and residential usage. The housing component will focus heavily on affordable housing units as well as supportive service housing. The city is also requiring open space with landscaping and some sort of a community facility. The city will give the land to the chosen developer for $1.00. RFPs must be submitted to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) by November 1st.
